grinding with a fibre disc on an angle grinder

Video transcription

Read carefully the instructions in the machine handbook and the safety leaflet supplied with the disc.

Use the correct size and type of guard recommended for grinding.

Check the marking on the disc or the packaging:

  • Declaration of conformity to the Standard EN 13743,
  • Use the disc with a back-up pad and check that the speed in RPM is equal or greater than the one on the machine.
  • The speed marked on the disc or the packaging in meter per second must be equal or higher than the one on the back-up pad. If the speed is 80 m/s this involves that the speed on the machine must not be higher than 12000 RPM.

Follow any instruction on material suitability given by the manufacturer.

Do not use a damaged disc.

To be safe, make sure the machine is isolated.

Fit the guard for grinding and check that it is correctly adjusted to protect you from debris, especially in case of breakage. Never use a machine without a guard.

Inspect the back-up pad for damage.

The disc must overlap the back-up pad by 1,5 to 7,5 mm.

Place the back-up pad on the machine spindle.

Position the disc and fasten with the special front flange provided with the back-up pad.

Tighten with pin spanner. Machine spindle must not protrude through the clamping nut by more than 3mm when tightened.

Fit the handle.

Wear your personal protective equipment:

  • Suitable clothing
  • Mask,
  • Eye Protection,
  • Ear protection,
  • Protective gloves

Make sure that the work piece cannot move and working area is clean and tidy, and no other person is at risk.

Reconnect the machine, start it and let it run freely at least 30 seconds to ensure that the disc does not break or run with excessive vibration.

Work in a stable position. Always hold an angle grinder with both hands.

Grind at an angle of about 10 degrees to the workpiece moving from side to side, without excessive force on the disc to not damage it.

After turning off the machine, wait until the disc has stopped running before putting down the machine and unplug it.

Never force the disc to stop.

Remove the disc if it is not to be used again.

Follow all the safety recommendations to avoid serious injury.

In case of injury, call the emergency services.
