Control of conformity at Batimat 2015: diamond saws non-compliant with the French regulation. Danger for users!

On November the 6th, Jean-Philippe GUYOT, President of the French association of the abrasives producers (SNAS) denounced the failure to respect the French regulation on diamond saws at the exhibition Batimat during a press conference about the “Conformity on the French market”.

In 2003, France published a mandatory regulation with very strict technical and marking requirements for abrasives and diamond saws used on electric hand-held machines. It is forbidden to sell, rent, use or provide products non-compliant with these requirements in France. Infringements can be sanctioned with expensive fines (1500€ per product), or criminal penalty especially in case of injury.

This regulation takes in consideration the European standard EN 13236 on security directions for superabrasives products which are used in the construction and building industry. As a consequence, diamond saws bearing the marking EN 13236 satisfy the requirements of the French regulation and are allowed on the French market.

At the show Batimat 2015, a baliff’s report showed that 4 stands out of 9 being inspected displayed non-compliant saws! It is a very serious problem, as beyond the marking, it is the danger encountered by the end users, professionals and DIYers, that is being involved here. Thousands of accidents are being reported every year.
